Actinic keratoses (AK) are growths that are pre-cancerous cells.

Although not all progress to become skin cancer, we try to remove them to prevent this from happening.  These are very common and often numerous.

Methods to remove them include cryotherapy (freezing with liquid nitrogen), electrodessication and curettage (burning and scraping) and topical chemotherapy agents.  We specialize in Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) a method of treating the entire area that has the AKs to not only treat the existing AKs but to prevent new ones from forming.  Dr. Taub has published many papers and book chapters on this subject and is considered an International expert on PDT.  She has pioneered in this field and has innovated new protocols to make this great treatment even more effective.  Each individual has their own needs and goals when determining how to care for their AKs and each of these options is explored during a medical visit so that you will receive the treatments that will benefit your condition in the best manner for you.
