There are many skin conditions that affect children that parents should be aware of. The social/emotional impact that children live with can be very potent and can affect the child for life. We will be discussing birth marks, rashes, acne, moles, eczema, warts, skin cancers and sun affects among other skin conditions.

Life is different for children who have a skin condition. Some kids say it is like living in a prison because once other kids know about the condition, they stay away. Feeling unjustly singled out is all too common among children with a skin condition. Kids want to know why they cannot participate in activities that other kids enjoy. They may wonder why they have to undergo endless treatments or have skin that makes others, even adults, cringe.

Our guest speakers include:  Amy Forman Taub, MD is a Board-Certified Dermatologist that has been in private practice since 1989. In January 2003, Dr. Taub founded Advanced Dermatology and Skinfo® Specialty Skincare Boutique in Lincolnshire, Illinois. Prior, Dr. Taub founded Skinfo.com, an information based skincare website that soon developed into its retail boutique for physician dispensed and cosmeceutical skincare products. Dr. Taub's practice philosophy is one of active collaboration with her patients. While she likes being on the cutting edge of technological and medical innovations, Dr. Taub carefully evaluates the scientific principles and safety of new treatments and procedures she makes available to her patients. Dr. Taub is also on faculty at Northwestern University Medical School and leads a monthly clinic teaching cosmetic dermatology and laser treatments, including BOTOX® Cosmetic and Injectable Filler RestylaneTM, to dermatology residents.

The American Academy of Dermatology will also provide a brief look at their unique Camp Discovery designed for young people with a serious skin condition.
