Isolaz™ Deep Pore Lazr Therapy
What is Isolaz™ Deep Pore Lazr Therapy?
The Isolaz™ Deep Pore Lazr Therapy (formerly known as the PPx Pore-Cleansing ACNE Treatment™) helps clear acne while helping to cleanse your pores. The treatment combines two technologies, a SonoPeel™ and the Isolaz™ Deep Pore Lazr Therapy. The SonoPeelTM uses ultrasonic energy and gentle cavitational forces to remove the dead, scaly outer layer of the skin, called the epidermis. This step prepares the skin for the following laser treatment. The Isolaz™ Deep Pore Lazr Therapy is a gentle vacuum with therapeutic broadband light to help rid your skin of acne causing impurities. The Isolaz™ System is FDA approved to treat many different kinds of acne including pustular and comedonal. This treatment may be done alone or in combination with other acne treatments.
Who is a candidate?
Patient with mild to moderate acne are good candidates for the Isolaz™ Deep Pore Lazr Therapy and SonoPeel™.
If you are pregnant, have been on Accutane within 3 months, or have an active cold sore you should not have this procedure. If you are taking aspirin or blood thinners, you may experience some bruising that can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. If you are tanned or have recently been exposed to the sun in the area you are having treated, you may be more susceptible to potential side effects such as blisters or crusts and/or your treatment may need to be reduced in intensity or postponed until the tan fades. If you have severe acne you may benefit from Photodynamic Therapy treatments instead.
What is Isolaz™ Deep Pore Lazr Therapy like?
How does Isolaz™ Deep Pore Lazr Therapy work ?
The Isolaz combines vacuum suction and light to target acne. Vacuum applies gentle suction to remove dirt, blackheads, and excessive oil from deep within the pores, while the light helps to destroy acne causing bacteria. The procedure is virtually painless and can be used alone or in combinations with other acne treatments. Benefits are often seen after the first treatment, however a series of treatments is recommended for optimal results.

Are there any negatives?
Every medical procedure involves a certain amount of risk and it is important that you understand the risks involved in Isolaz™ Deep Pore Lazr Therapy and SonoPeel™. Although the majority of patients do not experience these complications, it is important that your decision to proceed with Isolaz™ Deep Pore Lazr Therapy and SonoPeel™ is based upon a consideration of the alternatives to treatment as well as the risks, benefits, and costs of the proposed plan. Dr. Amy Taub, other Laser Providers at Advanced Dermatology, and/or the Cosmetic Coordinator will make sure that you fully understand the alternatives, benefits, risks, potential complications, and expected outcomes of this treatment.
Some patients do experience mild, but tolerable, discomfort during the SonoPeel™. During Isolaz™ Deep Pore Lazr Therapy, there is usually no to minimal discomfort. You will feel a gentle pull on the skin from the vacuum and a small burst of heat that is very tolerable from the light. No topical anesthetic is necessary.
The treatment area may be slightly red for a short period after the treatment. You may use make-up immediately post treatment if desired.
Because of the vacuum, bruising is slightly more common. The risk increases if you take aspirin products or are on blood thinners. Bruises are temporary and resolve in 1-2 weeks.
Should you have any blisters or crusts, please call our office immediately and begin using antibiotic ointment such as Bacitracin or Polysporin. There is a <0.5% possibility of a skin wound leaving behind a permanent scar.
Another risk is a possibility of hypo (too little) or hyper (too much) pigmentation that is very uncommon. Usually treatable with prescriptions creams, chemical peels or further laser treatments, there is a <1% possibility that this could be permanent. There is an increased risk of this with tanned or naturally dark skin. You may need extra treatments than those required by others if your skin is dark in order for us to be more conservative (gentler with initial and subsequent treatments) due to this increased risk. It is also important that you let any tanning lotions fade and do not seek artificial tanning treatments for 2 weeks prior to the procedure.
What happens after Isolaz™ Deep Pore Lazr Therapy?
Make up may be applied immediately after your treatment. Normal skin care, including acne medications can be resumed immediately unless otherwise directed by your provider. You may not go in a tanning booth at any time either before or during these treatments. Doing so will greatly increase your risks of a side effect. If there is any blistering or breakage of the skin after the procedure, you should use an antibiotic ointment such as Bacitracin or Polysporin (or we may provide you with Bactroban ointment) at least 2 times per day to keep the area moist. Please call us immediately if these are not minimal, localized or very superficial.
Is there another way to get the same effect?
Alternative treatments for acne include (but are not limited to) oral and topical antibiotics, Accutane, Photodynamic Therapy, other laser or light based therapies, chemical peels, and facials.
