Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix is a high-tech solution for tightening and regenerating skin. Advanced Dermatology offers the system in Chicagoland.
What is Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix is a unique fractional procedure which uses radio frequency to deliver an effective but controlled
ablative fractional treatment. Each
pulse delivers the radio frequency energy via a grid of matrix spots or
“Microthermal Treatment Zones”, inducing a skin injury which is maximized in
these tiny, targeted areas. Fibroblasts
activated within the “zones” signal collagen to regenerate and remodel,
yielding improved skin tone and texture overall. Meanwhile, the surrounding “untreated” tissue
then helps to support and accelerate the healing process in the skin.
Who is a candidate?
Patients
looking to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity or scarring with minimal
downtime are good candidates for this procedure. You should not have sublative rejuvenation if you are
pregnant or have been on Accutane within the past 6 months. In addition,
patients with pacemakers, internal defibrillators, or metal implants in the
area of concern should not have these treatments. Patients who have
diabetes, autoimmune disease, history of cold sores or have had injectable
fillers in the area to be treated should let us know prior to having sublative rejuvenation.
What is Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix Laser Skin Resurfacing like?
Usually
a series of three to five treatments are needed for optimal results. You will be required to wear goggles during the treatment. The
discomfort with the eMatrix device may be described as a moderate to deep
heating of the skin. We will apply topical
anesthetic to the area being treated 60 min prior and you may take pain
medication such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil) as well. Regardless,
the discomfort is usually experienced only during the procedure itself and you
should not be in any pain when you leave.
How does Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix Laser Skin Resurfacing work ?
Each pulse of energy applied to the skin delivers conducted radio frequency via a grid of 64 matrix spots or Microthermal Treatment Zones (MTZs). The radio frequency induces a skin injury which is maximized in each of these MTZs. The supporting “healthy” or untreated tissue then helps to accelerate the healing process. Because this unique technology allows for various degrees of overlap, a wide range of skin types and conditions can be treated safely.
What type of equipment is used?
The equipment used is the eMatrix by Syneron.
What desired results can be expected?
Patients
can expect a noticeable reduction of fine lines, wrinkles and acne and other
scarring. In addition, patients will see
an improvement in texture and skin laxity.
On average, most results appear over a period of three to six months,
but some patients notice results immediately after treatment.
Are there any negatives?
Most
patients will have mild redness and swelling in the treatment areas lasting
from a few hours up to three days after the treatment but are able to return to routine activities, including
work and social obligations the same day the same day of treatment. You may
apply makeup post-procedure to cover redness. There is
a small risk of a skin wound developing that can result in a permanent scar or
depression. Subsequent treatments may be necessary to improve these
should they occur. Although very
uncommon, another
risk is a possibility of hypo (too little) or hyper (too much) pigmentation. Tiny scabs will usually form within one to
three days following treatment and will shed shortly after forming. It is extremely important that you use a daily
sunscreen with SPF 30 and Zinc Oxide as well as other recommended skincare during
the entire time that you are undergoing this procedure and for a period of 6
months following. You should not tan
outdoors or in a tanning booth at any time either before or during these
treatments, as doing so will greatly increase your risks of side effects.
What happens after Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Most
patients have mild redness and swelling for a few hours after the treatment. You
may apply make-up to the treated area after the sublative rejuvenation procedure. Results will develop
over time and with subsequent treatments. Full results can be appreciated
at three to six months following the last treatment. Maintenance treatments may
be necessary to maintain the results.
Sublative Rejuvenation is a non-invasive treatment that does not require injections.
The laser stimulates the patient's own collagen to remodel and restructure and
does not rely on temporary substance filler.
Can this be combined with other treatments?
Sublative rejuvenation with the eMatrix may be combined with many other cosmetic treatments in our office
such as Photorejuvenation, Tissue Tightening Lasers, BOTOX® Cosmetic and Injectable
fillers. Many patients choose to undergo combination treatments in order
to achieve the maximum aesthetic result.
