Psoriasis and Enbrel®
New “biological” therapies are available for psoriasis.
We have found Enbrel® to be our most effective weapon for combating
moderate to severe psoriasis. Our patients have experienced few, if any, adverse events. Enbrel®
is an injectable medication that we teach you how to administer at home.
Most patients see significant improvement in 1 – 2 months. We
have patients who have suffered from psoriasis for many years and
with the help of Enbrel® have finally been able to experience freedom
from itching, flaking, and the unsightly appearance of their skin.
***Also, as we are approaching flu season we wanted to remind patients
who are currently using Enbrel®, that they should not receive live
vaccines. The flu nasal spray is a live vaccine and should not be used
by Enbrel® patients, however most flu injection vaccines are not
live vaccines. Be sure to check if any vaccine is live before receiving
it.***
Treat Acne Without Medications
Photodynamic
therapy (PDT) is a painless treatment that kills the bacteria that
cause acne and shrinks oil glands. Most patients find that a series of
3 treatments yields results that last from 3 – 12 months. Dr. Taub is a
pioneer and national expert in this revolutionary new treatment.
Schedule an appointment with Dr. Taub or Shannon Morrow, PA-C to see if
you can benefit from this treatment.
Research Studies
Advanced Dermatology is involved in a number of clinical research studies. Patients who enroll in studies receive treatments
at a discounted rate or at no charge depending on the study. We present
our studies at national meetings and have published our results in medical
journals.
Rosacea Laser Study- Patients are randomly assigned to one of three
laser treatments and receive three treatments to treat redness and breakouts caused by rosacea.
Thermage / Polaris Tissue Tightening Study- One half of the face receives
one treatment with Thermage and the other half of the face receives
five treatments with Polaris to treat facial laxity due to aging skin..
PDT for Acne- This study has not started yet, but look for more information
coming soon. We will be enrolling 24 patients (at least 16 years old)
with moderate to severe acne who will be randomly assigned to one of
three light sources and receive three treatments.

Introducing the FotoFirm Procedure for Skin Tightening-
The FotoFirm, using the Polaris - quoted by the New Yorker as the “Best
Antiaging Treatment” – is one of the newest technologies
now used for tissue tightening! The FotoFirm uses a combination of laser
and radiofrequency designed to tighten or firm skin tissue in the jawline,
neck, cheeks, and forehead. It also helps to improve superficial age
lines and scarring.
Pan G™ update-
our first year of success - What a success our Pan G™ comprehensive
skin and muscle lifting treatment program has been! Over the last year
and a half, our Pan G™ clients evaluated their own improvement, rating
their brow lift-76%, cheek lift- 74%, jowl lift- 74%, skin texture-
83%, and hydration- 90%. There were no complications nor downtime
associated with the procedure. Thank you to all of our Pan G™ clients
who have contributed to our study over these many months with our
follow-up questions. We are planning to publish our findings and will
keep you posted.
BOTOX® Cosmetic prices get a facelift! - Effective
November 1st, 2004, the fees for BOTOX® Cosmetic will change from
pricing based on area to prices determined by units used. The reason
for this is that the amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic needed can vary quite
a bit from person to person. The price will not significantly change
for most patients; depending on the amount needed the fee might decrease
or increase. Listed below are the average units required for treating
the typical areas where BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered. The new
fee will be $12.00 per unit. There will be a $15.00 discount for 2 areas
and a $30.00 discount for 3 areas.
Average female dose
Forehead (12-20 units) Eyes (24 units) Brow (30 units) All areas (66-74
units)
Average male dose
Forehead (12-20 units) Eyes (24 units) Brow (40-60 units) All areas
(76-104 units)
We are also starting a new BOTOX® Cosmetic rewards program! Complete
3 BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments in 1 year at Advanced Dermatology and
you will receive 10% off the fourth treatment provided it is within
1 year of the last BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment!
