Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix is a unique procedure which uses radio frequency to deliver an effective but controlled ablative and non-ablative fractional treatment for wrinkles, scars, large pores and better texture of the skin. Similar to "Fraxel" it uses radiofreqeuency (electrical) energy, as opposed to laser. Each pulse delivers the radio frequency energy via a grid of matrix spots, inducing a skin injury which is maximized in these tiny, targeted areas. Fibroblasts activated within the “zones” signal collagen to regenerate and remodel, yielding improved skin tone and texture overall. Meanwhile, the surrounding “untreated” tissue then helps to support and accelerate the healing process in the skin.
Usually a series of three to five treatments are needed for optimal results.
How do I know if I need Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Patients looking to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity or scarring with minimal downtime are good candidates for this procedure. You should not have Sublative Rejuvenation if you are pregnant or have been on Accutane within the past 6 months. In addition, patients with pacemakers, internal defibrillators, or metal implants in the area of concern should not have these treatments. Patients who have diabetes, autoimmune disease, history of cold sores or have had injectable fillers in the area to be treated (need to wait one month after fillers) should let us know prior to having Sublative Rejuvenation.
How does Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix Laser Skin Resurfacing work?
Sublative Rejuvenation is a non-invasive treatment that does not require injections. The laser stimulates the patient's own collagen to remodel and restructure and does not rely on temporary substance filler.
What benefits can I expect?
Patients can expect a noticeable reduction of fine lines, wrinkles and acne and other scarring. In addition, patients will see an improvement in texture and skin laxity. On average, most results appear over a period of three to six months (it takes time for collagen to grow), but some patients notice results immediately after treatment.
What are the risks and side effects from Sublative Resurfacing/eMatrix?
The procedure is uncomfortable, although this is minimized by the topical anesthetic that is put on the skin prior to the treatment for 30 minutes. Expected side effects are redness and swelling after the procedure that lasts from hours to days, and occasionally even up to a week or beyond (very unusual). Any resurfacing procedure can result in a scar or infection, although this is exceedingly rare. We have not experienced any darkening or lightening of the skin as a result of eMatrix, although theoretically this is possible.
Prior to treatment all potential risks and side effects will be discussed with you by your medical provider and cosmetic coordinator.
How will I look and feel during and after Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Most patients have redness and swelling for a few hours to 3 days after the treatment (occasionally it can last longer). You may apply make-up to the treated area immediately after the Sublative rejuvenation procedure. Tiny crusts develop and are present for about 5-14 days, but these are easy to camouflage with makeup or even without it after the first one to two days. Results will develop over time and with subsequent treatments. Full results can be appreciated at three to six months following the last treatment. Maintenance treatments may be necessary.
Is there another way to get the same effect?
Alternative forms of treatment for wrinkles and scars include BOTOX Cosmetic, Injectable fillers, Fraxel Dual, CO2 fractional resurfacing (CO2RE), tissue tightening, surgery, chemical peels, microdermabrasion and topical therapies.
Can this be combined with other treatments?
Combination treatments with the eMatrix are commonly performed in our office and are known as the E2 E3. The E2 treatment is a combination of the eMatrix (sublative) and the Refirme (Sublime) which is a tissue tightening device. We perform these two treatments together to get the maximum improvement in texture and firmness as well as reduction in the sagging of the skin. When we add photorejuvenation to the two procedures we call it the E3. This is an all-in-one treatment that targets the texture, tone, pores, tightness and also gets rid of sun spots and redness. We can do these 2 or 3 procedures all in one day. The typical rejuvenation schedule for such treatments is once a month for 3 months. In addition, Sublative rejuvenation with the eMatrix may be combined with many other cosmetic treatments in our office such as Botulinum Toxin and Injectable fillers. Many patients choose to undergo combination treatments in order to achieve the maximum aesthetic result.
What is the cost of Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix Laser Skin Resurfacing?
The cost of Sublative Rejuvenation is based on a recommended treatment plan. Treatment usually costs between $525-750 per treatment for Sublative Rejuvenation alone whereas the E2 is about $1200 per treatment and the E3 is about $1600 per treatment.
