Excess facial hair can be genetic, or in women, it can be due to a hormonal imbalance.

Most of the time excess facial hair is genetic or due to aging.  Mustache, sideburn, and chin hair is the most common of excess facial hair in women. Sometimes facial hair is a sign of polycystic ovarian syndrome, which can cause excess facial hair and acne.  If there is a suspicion of that due to excess hair, acne, and the irregular menstrual cycle then we will recommend blood work or evaluation by a gynecologist or endocrinologist in addition to the laser treatment.

Men often complain about the neckbeard, especially the lowest part that may be more prone to ingrown hairs or have an irregular lower border and is difficult to shave. Ingrown hairs otherwise know as pseudofolliculitis barbae, is the most common cause for men to want hair removal.

Occasionally people want to have their unibrow treated.  Laser hair removal is one of the most mature laser treatments available.  Advanced Dermatology has the best equipment for skin of color for laser hair removal.  With dark skin, patients need to seek out the correct laser so as not to get injured.
