Acne Treatment with Aerolase LightPod Neo®

Painful and unsightly acne affects many teens, women and men.  Acne sufferers often have a lower quality of life caused by social anxiety, actual pain or embarrassment. There are many topical and oral medications that help to clear up acne, but sometimes these fail or don’t help enough or cause side effects. The Aerolase® LightPod Neo® is a 1064 nanometer laser that can provide a safe, quick, and effective treatment to clear up acne. Without touching the skin, the LightPod Neo® acne treatment targets acne lesions without spreading p. acnes bacteria to unaffected areas of the skin, killing much of the bacteria and shrinking or causing damage to overly active oil glands.

How do I know if I need LightPod Neo®?

If you have acne that isn’t cleared by current treatment to your satisfaction or want to replace your current acne treatment, the LightPod Neo® acne treatment may be a good treatment for you.

If you are pregnant, have taken Accutane during the past 6 months, or have an active cold sore you should not undergo the LightPod Neo® acne treatment.

How does the LightPod Neo® acne treatment work?

The Aerolase® Light Pod Neo® laser uses a gentle yet highly effective laser which does not touch the skin to heat p. acnes bacteria deeper than most lasers in the sebaceous gland and surrounding tissue to kill the bacteria which produces acne flare ups. A reduction in swelling and inflammation results in immediate relief of acne discomfort such as pain and pressure in acne lesions.

The LightPod Neo® acne treatment requires no anesthesia and there may be minimal pain and downtime.

What benefits can I expect?

Acne lesions reduce in size, occasionally immediately, or over time. Improvement is usually seen after 2-4 treatments. We recommend 3 to 6 treatments spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. Additional treatments are highly encouraged to maintain your results. Unfortunately, this is not a cure for acne, although there have been some long-term remissions achieved.

What are the risks and side effects?

Your skin may be red for a short period post treatment, but you may resume to normal activities immediately.

Prior to treatment potential risks and side effects will be discussed with you by your cosmetic coordinator and medical provider.  Most risks are minimal, but as with any medical procedure, there are some risks.

How will I look and feel during and after the treatment?

You may have minor redness in the treated areas post treatment. It is safe to apply makeup and resume normal skin care, including acne medications, immediately after treatment unless your provider directs otherwise.

We invite you to visit skinfo® located in the practice at Glencoe, or below the practice in Lincolnshire, for a touch up or for a full make-over with mineral makeup.

Are there other ways to get the same benefit?

If you have mild to moderate acne, you may also benefit from acne facials, oral and topical antibiotics, chemical peels, or other laser or light-based procedures. If your acne is severe, Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) or Accutane may be appropriate.  A DERMALINFUSION® treatment is highly recommended as an adjunctive service with the LightPod Neo® acne treatment.

Is the cost of the procedure covered by my insurance?

No. LightPod Neo® acne treatments are cosmetic and must be paid for at the time of service.  The cost for one LightPod Neo® acne treatment is $175.  Package pricing is 3 for $495 or 6 for $900.
