Sculptra Aesthetic is an injectable filler that creates volume in sunken cheeks and nasolabial folds as well as reducing cheek wrinkles and facial sagging. To achieve best results two to four treatment visits spaced 6-12 weeks apart are usually necessary.
Sculptra Aesthetic works by stimulating your own collagen to grow It is distributed over the areas your face needs volume to achieve a more youthful look. Sculptra contains microscopic particles of poly-L-latic acid, a biodegradable, synthetic material. Distributed by Valeant Pharmaceutical, it is used when the volume to be replaced is more diffuse than just a few wrinkles or when the providers feel it fits better for the individual's needs.
Like the other injectables offered at Advanced Dermatology, anesthesia is included and the material is slowly injected while our skilled and artistic injectors create a 3-dimensional effect to achieve a natural and refreshed result.
Sculptra is different from hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane and Juvederm), although they can be used in combination.
Although most potential side effects are similar to hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra can occasionally cause small nodules similar to a about half a pea and hard. We attempt to avoid these by using the recommended volume dilution, doing vigorous massage after your procedure and instructing you to do massage for 5 days afterward. There are ways of diminishing these nodules if they do occur.
