Spider veins are a common problem that a huge number of women and some men suffer from. Varciose veins tend to be larger, blue and bulging above the skin and occur in both sexes. People with chronic leg swelling, heaviness, aching, cramping and itching are often surprised to learn that their symptoms are caused by leg veins that have abnormal leaky valves.
Spider veins can often be treated by sclerotherapy, a relatively routine treatment that can reduce or eradicate the spider veins with a series of injections. However, it is recommended for many to have an evaluation and ultrasound to determine if these veins are caused by a deeper problem, as then a different type of procedure is more effective, called endovenous laser ablation.
