CO2 Fractional Resurfacing with QuadraLASE ™
CO2 Fractional Resurfacing with QuadraLASE ™ in Chicago, IL
What is CO2 Fractional Resurfacing with QuadraLASE ™?
The QuadraLASE™ (produced by Candela) Fractional Laser Resurfacing removes layers of skin tissue in a fractionated method (by leaving surrounding tissue intact) to help reduce the components of sun-damaged skin such as “age-spots” (also called sun freckles, liver spots, and lentigines), fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, uneven coloration, skin laxity, textural irregularities, dull tone, and a thinned collagen layer of the face, neck, and chest.
Who is a candidate?
Anyone who has sun damaged, aging skin, irregularly pigmented skin, mild wrinkles, irregular texture of the skin or other skin condition that could be expected to be improved with this treatment that understands the risks, costs and time necessary to achieve the full benefit of the procedure and who has realistic expectations of the ultimate outcome.
What is CO2 Fractional Resurfacing with QuadraLASE ™ like?
QuadraLASE™ is an in-office procedure that requires proper pre- and post-treatment medication to ensure proper healing and comfort during the procedure. Discomfort varies on the depth of the treatment. For your comfort during the treatment, we may apply a topical anesthetic or inject local anesthetic and/or tumescent anesthetic and prescribe sedative medications to reduce discomfort. After the treatment most patients describe the post-procedure feeling as a bad sunburn for about 12 hours to 2 days. Please also follow the instructions for all other prescribed pain medication is needed post treatment. We also recommend pain or relaxation medications prior to treatment therefore you will need to have somebody drive you home after treatment.
Typically a series of one to two laser treatments with the QuadraLASE™ are recommended depending on desired result and initial severity of the condition. However, some patients may require additional treatments to achieve the same results. Maintenance treatments may also be necessary to maintain results.
How does CO2 Fractional Resurfacing with QuadraLASE ™ work ?
The skin responds by immediately resulting in new collagen growth and a reduction in the components of sun damaged skin such as “age-spots” (also called sun freckles, liver spots, and lentigines), fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, uneven coloration, skin laxity, textural irregularities, dull tone, and a thinned collagen layer. The skin will continue to improve for a period of 6 months following the procedure provided proper skincare was used and sun exposure was minimal.
What type of equipment is used?
The QuadraLASE™ is a carbon dioxide fractional resurfacing laser, one of the most advanced technologies to revitalize skin. This technology removes layers of skin tissue in a fractionated method by leaving surrounding tissue intact.
What desired results can be expected?
The QuadraLASE™ (produced by Candela) Fractional Laser Resurfacing removes layers of skin tissue in a fractionated method (by leaving surrounding tissue intact) to help reduce the components of sun-damaged skin such as “age-spots” (also called sun freckles, liver spots, and lentigines), fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, uneven coloration, skin laxity, textural irregularities, dull tone, and a thinned collagen layer of the face, neck, and chest.
The number of treatments is typically 1 with a second if needed 6-12 months later. Because this treatment is more comprehensive, there is typically 7-14 days of manageable downtime, depending on the depth of the treatment. The end result is absolutely rewarding with improvement in the skin’s tightness, vibrant texture and glowing even complexion.
Are there any negatives?
QuadraLASE™ is an effective treatment method, although does require 7-14 days of manageable downtime. This downtime will include redness and possible minor bleeding and oozing depending on treatment depth, dryness, and minor peeling and flaking (it is important to keep the skin moist after treatment). Other potential side effects may include but are not limited to: skin wound, infection and scarring, hypo and hyper-pigmentation.
What happens after CO2 Fractional Resurfacing with QuadraLASE ™?
It is most important to follow the instructions given to you by your provider. A strict skincare regimen and sun avoidance is recommended for best healing and optimal results for a period of 6 months following treatment. Failure to do so may result in sub-optimal results or side effects such as listed above.
Your skin will continue to age as time goes on due to sun exposure, environmental stress, overall health and lifestyle choices such as smoking. To maintain your results we recommend a healthy skincare routine including cosmeceutical products, medical grade facials, and other procedures as directed by your provider.
Is there another way to get the same effect?
Alternatives to the QuadraLASE™ Fractional Laser Resurfacing treatment include camouflaging the problem areas with makeup, doctor-dispensed cosmeceutical creams, laser photorejuvenation, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, medical-grade facials, Fraxel, Pearl, laser peels or other forms of resurfacing. The effect will vary depending on the quantity of treatment and desired result.
How is this different than other procedures?
The QuadraLASE™ stands apart from other alternative methods of skin rejuvenation due to the technology’s effect on the skin. Traditionally CO2 Resurfacing requires more downtime and greater potential risks and side effects than more non-ablative (non-aggressive) forms of skin rejuvenation. The new method of CO2 Fractional Resurfacing with the QuadraLASE™ cuts this risk and downtime dramatically, but still only requires 1-2 treatments to achieve the desired result.
Can this be combined with other treatments?
The QuadraLASE™ can be combined with other treatments although we do not prefer to do other treatments in the same area(s) treated on the same day. Many choose to have Wrinkle Relaxers such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport™ to reduce unwanted wrinkles caused by muscle contraction in addition to having Dermal Fillers such as Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm to plump and fill areas where volume has been lost such as the cheeks, nasolabial folds, lower eyelids and lips.
