Daxxify (formerly known as DAXI) Injections

Daxxify™ works similarly to the other neuromodulators, in that it causes a disruption to the signal from the nerve to the targeted muscle, causing the muscle to relax. This is not permanent, but can last 4-6 months, longer than the other FDA approved neurotoxins or modulators, which are approved for 3-4 months.

Wrinkles on your forehead and around your eyes may become smoother, your brow may be lifted and your eyes may become more opened. Your overall facial expression will be one of greater relaxation and alertness. Of course, these results do depend on which areas are treated.

Let’s understand the numbers. 50% of people who get Daxxify™ have a 4-6 month duration. That means of the other 50%, some get less and some get more (yes there were people who got 8 months!). The statistics for Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau™ are 50% get 3-4 months and the other half get less or more. So NOT everyone gets the same duration and this has always been true. The side effects are NO different from any other neuromodulators.

There is little to no downtime with Daxxify™ you can resume your daily activities immediately after your treatment. There is a small possibility of getting a bruise that can last a few days to 2 weeks.

The most common side effect is a small pinpoint bruise. Occasionally one or both eyebrows become too elevated, which is easily corrected (we actually perform our injections to prevent this. The least common side effect are a droopy brow or eyelid, and very rare is double vision. We inject very precisely and dilute our Daxxify™ minimally to avoid migration of toxin to other areas. If it does occur, it is temporary, although we will do whatever we can (prescription eye drops, additional procedures to attempt correction) to resolve this. Prior to treatment, your medical provider and cosmetic coordinator will discuss all potential risks and side effects with you and answer any additional questions you may have.

Most patients find that the procedure is very tolerable. The needle is tiny and cold air and ice packs minimize the pinprick sensation during injection. You will lay down and the treatment area will be thoroughly cleansed and your provider will ask you to frown, smile, and look surprised. These facial expressions will cause you to activate the muscles to be injected. The provider will mark the injection spots with a washable pen and then proceed with the treatment, usually 5 to 20 injections. The treatment takes about 10 minutes and you can return to work or daily activities immediately following. First time patients are often relieved afterward because the procedure was easier than they had anticipated.

To prevent bruising after treatment, do not take aspirin containing products or high-dose vitamin E supplements (unless your doctor has recommended otherwise) for 10 days prior to the procedure. Vitamin E within a typical multivitamin may be taken during this time. The injected area may look like a mosquito bite for 20 to 60 minutes and be swollen for a few hours. Little red areas may appear but they resolve in a few days. Bruising is uncommon but if it occurs, it may require 7 to 10 days to clear. In the meantime, the bruise can be camouflaged with makeup, which may be applied immediately after treatment. You can facilitate Daxxify™ absorption by making frowns, raising your eyebrows, smiling, and squinting. Do this several times for 1-2 hours after the injections. Try not to fall asleep for 4 hours after the treatment because the injected Daxxify™ may spread to nearby areas and cause unwanted relaxation of other muscles. Feel free to resume your regular skincare immediately after treatment. Try to avoid aspirin-containing products or high-dosage vitamin E supplements for 48 hours after the treatment unless your doctor has recommended otherwise.

You can have Daxxify™ injected in your forehead, Brow (“11”s), crow’s feet, brow lift, bunny lines (nose), neck lines, lips, frown lines, brow depressors (eyebrows). Other areas that are off-label (not yet approved by FDA for this area), include the chewing muscles to slim the face or help treat TMJ, the neck muscles for neck bands, and the lower jawline to create a crisper looking jawline.

4-6 months. This is what makes Daxxify™ different from BOTOX® Cosmetic , Dysport® and Xeomin®. The latter 3 neurotoxin brands tend to last for 3-4 months.
