What to expect at a cosmetic consultation, Summer 2014 Newsletter

For many people, there comes a time when they are ready to learn about what steps can be taken to help improve their skin issues on a cosmetic level. Some issues can’t be solved with prescription creams or medications, so their provider may suggest they have a cosmetic consultation. This is one of the best ways to learn about treatments that can help improve their skin concerns. Advanced Dermatology is known for always keeping up with the most current technologies and products so that we can always offer the best options for every skin type.

visiaThe cosmetic consultation starts with a complimentary Visia photo that you will have done in the skinfo® store. This is a photo one of the estheticians will take of your skin that will show you what percent of redness, brown spots, wrinkles and bacteria present in your skin. It is best to come without makeup on so we can get the most accurate reading. Based on your results, we can give you skincare suggestions that can improve the areas. If you decided to purchase skincare, you should use it as directed for three months and then come for a follow up visia. This will show you the difference your skincare can really make. It can also help us determine what is working best for your skin and when products need to be changed out. Many people feel they invest in skincare but they never can tell if it really works. The visia is a helpful tool that can now show us just how helpful skincare can be.

Once you are finished, you will be taken to check in for your consultation appointment. If you are a new patient, it will be most helpful if you can fill out your paperwork prior to coming in (it will be emailed to you a few days prior to your appointment). If you cannot fill it out, please arrive 15 minutes early. Once that is taken care of, you will be called into your appointment by the cosmetic coordinator.

The cosmetic coordinator will ask you what your main cosmetic concerns are. A lot of treatments have several options so it can get confusing if we explain too many different things to you in one session. The coordinator will ask questions to guide you through which treatments would best fit your lifestyle. Once it has been decided what treatments are your best options, the coordinator will explain exactly how these treatments work. They will also explain the downtime, possible side effects, and they will also show you before and after pictures of our patients whom have had the treatment.

Once all of that has been established, the coordinator will step out of the room to go get one of our medical providers (either one of our Physician Assistants or Medical Doctors). The medical provider will come in to evaluate you, answer any medical questions, and just verify what treatments would be your best option. They will also be able to tell the coordinator how many treatments you may need or how much time is needed so that the coordinator will be able to give you proper quotes for the treatments. The medical provider will then leave, and the coordinator will go over all the information with you again, and is able to schedule you if you decide to go forward with the treatment. If you need more time to think about it, they will follow up with you within the next week to answer additional questions you may have. The cosmetic consultation is a $75.00 fee, and that fee can be used toward your treatment if it is done within 60 days of the consultation. We offer consultations at both the Lincolnshire and Glencoe locations. Please call the office to schedule at 847-459-6400. We look forward to seeing you!
