Foot Fungus

Foot fungus is commonly referred to as “athlete’s foot.” It involves an infection by fungal microorganisms in the outer layer of the skin of the foot.

Foot fungus most commonly appears as an itchy or burning rash between the small toes on the foot, or on the inner foot. The skin may crack, split, or peel, and there is often an odor. Sometimes it just looks like a dry foot all over with cracked heels.

Foot fungus treatments may include topical or oral medications, as well as advice on proper foot care.      As the fungal elements cannot ever be completely eliminated from our environment, recurrence is common. However, foot fungus treatments can eliminate the offending fungal microorganisms, and with proper foot care the chances of re-infection can be reduced.
