Dr. Taub’s Winter 2019 Letter

Dear patients, colleagues and friends,

It’s that time of year when we bundle up and hunker down. I know most people hate winter but I really like it! Even though temperatures below 20 degrees, frigid winds and lack of sun may get to me at times. However, give me a sunny 25-degree day and I am out walking my dog and having a grand time! It is quite refreshing! Travel wise, I decided to skip my annual big fall international trip this year – but next year it will be in India. For those of you who have been there, I am taking recommendations starting now!

In October, I attended the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery Meeting in Phoenix. This is my favorite society, as they are small enough to get things done and mirror my interests. This year they asked me to speak on body shaping and practice management as well as the DefenAge® Study. At the Cosmetic Surgery Forum, I spoke on Cosmeceuticals and Feminine Rejuvenation. On page 15 you can see me at these meetings.

We have received such great feedback about the new office. Thanks for welcoming it with open arms. Everybody keeps telling me that when they get off the elevator or open the door from the stairs they think “Where am I?” We are so pleased that you like it. We have also received some constructive feedback which is also welcome; we always are trying to improve.

I want to let you know about new treatments we are now offering. The first is a completely new category: body shaping through muscle stimulation! This is a machine called the Torc. We apply an applicator to your abdomen or to your upper thighs and buttocks and a radiofrequency machine can make your muscles contract. What does this mean? This means that while you are laying down you can do 100s or even 1000s of ab crunches. We target almost all of the abdominal muscles and after 4-6 treatments spaced over 4-6 weeks, you will look more toned. What are the downsides? It is temporary, but usually a monthly treatment to  maintain results will suffice. This is a great treatment for those who exercise but can’t quite achieve the muscle definition they are hoping for. It even makes people feel firmer, more slender, and sometimes helps them get to another level of fitness with their workouts.

Hands are the new neck! If someone can’t tell how old you are they often look at your hands. Why? They are always in the sun and the skin is thin so it is an easy way, to show the truth. We now have 2 fillers that are FDA approved  for treatment of the hands, Restylane® Lyft (new) and Radiesse®. This procedure only takes a few minutes, is pretty easy to tolerate and results are seen in minutes. There can be swelling and bruising, but this is temporary. See the photos and additional information on page 8.

Lisa Bolisnger, LE has been an esthetician with us for about 5 years. She is pregnant with twins and after careful deliberation has decided to temporarily retire to care for her children. She will be with us through March. In the meantime, we are looking to fill her position and will keep you posted! We wish Lisa well with her birthing process and for her future!

Lastly, I want to focus on what is “natural”? We hear this phrase in every consult and wanted to discuss it with you. Natural to me means that if you have a treatment, people won’t look at you and be able to tell you had work done. There are so many examples in the media of celebrities looking “done”, or should I say “overdone”. For those of you who have had “work” with us, I think you know that we are not fans of this overdone look. We NEVER strive for this look; in fact, we abhor it. Take a look  at the employees in our office or the providers- nobody has a phony, done look. We don’t think of these treatments as being corrective or enhancements so much as restorations. With few exceptions, most people aren’t looking at one area on their face and wanting to correct it (well, now with social media that might not be true). Most of the time, treatments are pursued because something we once had: a less tired look, firm jowls and jawline, no frown lines or forehead lines, a firm smooth neck, etc. were naturally ours. We want to RESTORE what we once had! This is how we think of our treatments; a restoration of structure and function that used to be more optimal and over time hasn’t maintained as well as we like. Our pledge is to always ensure you look like you…only better!

Thank you for your support over the years!
