May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the United States? Many skin cancers are caused by sun damage, although a few are hereditary. We recommend that everyone receives one baseline evaluation of their moles and lesions by a dermatologist. They will provide a thorough examination and educate regarding prevention. We also recommend dermatologist visits for any new, changing, or non-healing lesions. Patients with a history of suspicious or abnormal lesions are recommended to have annual body checks. Also, if someone in your family has had a skin cancer, please make an appointment for a skin cancer screening.
