Dr. Taub’s Letter Summer 2019 Newsletter

Welcome to the Spring/Summer 2019 newsletter issue of Advanced Dermatology and skinfo®.  So, no Super Bowl or Stanley Cup, and a pretty rugged winter but… we will bounce back as we always do! As usual, there is a lot going on around here!

In April, I was invited to be on a panel at Nieman Marcus in Chicago with Val Warner, Co-Host of ABC 7’s Morning Talk Show, Windy City LIVE, and Michelle Alegria of Fox 32 Chicago, to discuss new options for body shaping as well as experience a fashion show from Diane Von Furstenburg fashions. Gotta love those wrap dresses! We are one of the first in the Chicago metro area to have truSculpt® iD, a hands-free fat destroying device that can treat 3 areas at once in 15 minutes! It is an upgrade from the truSculpt® 3D, with a heating algorithm that maximized effects, while minimizing discomfort and is four times faster than the 3D.

How is this different than CoolSculpting®, inquiring minds want to know? The truSculpt® iD and CoolSculpting® both non-invasively and permanently destroy fat. truSculpt® iD does so with radiofrequency energy and CoolSculpting® does so with cold energy. There are benefits of both methods and some people may benefit from one versus the other or even sometimes a combination. The goal is to get rid of stubborn fat pockets and attain a more attractive shape. Certain areas with more lax skin than usual or more fibrous or firm fat may be better off with truSculpt® iD. However, both achieve 20-24% fat reduction in the areas treated and both are FDA approved for lipolysis (fat destruction). Some of you don’t want to travel to Lincolnshire from the city or the North Shore for CoolSculpting®, now you have an option as truSculpt® iD will be at our Glencoe location!

We talked about Torc in the last newsletter, but now it is here! It is an additional way to get the shape you want, to feel stronger, or to get further with your workouts than you have been able to on your own.

Torc also uses radiofrequency in a different way to get your abdominal muscles and/or the buttock and thigh muscles firm, defined and strong! If you are already fit and looking to get more definition, want to tone your thighs and butt, or if you just want to feel stronger, come in! Who said we couldn’t exercise laying down?

I was in Denver at the American Society of Laser Surgery and Medicine meeting in March and I was a Session Director, which was a real honor. My co-chair, Dr. Jeremy Green, and I moderated a lunch meeting on laser pearls. In medical parlance, pearls are practical nuggets of information that are useful to experienced practitioners and are often readily accessible (kind of like a MacGyver solution to a vexing problem!) I can not believe I didn’t take a photo of it, but it was a completely full room. I spoke about the use of a common laser for a difficult to treat genetic disease called DSAP and my laser solution for oil gland overgrowths. I think I have figured out a treatment to make them go away for longer than when we just hyfrecate (burn them) off the surface.

It seems everyone is enjoying the new office as much as we are! We have also added a new machine called Nitronoxto give you a bit of laughing gas if you are anxious or want to take the edge off of a procedure that you are afraid of.

Finally, I just want to say to the patients that see me on a regular basis and/or have for years, a couple of years ago I cut my hours back a little. This is keeping me fresh, but it is also making it much more difficult for you to get in to see me. I know you trust me and I so revel in  your trust. It is the best feeling in the world to know that you know that I will always put your best interest first. But just know that I also would only become partners with talented dermatologists and only hire and supervise Physicians’ Assistants that I trust! In case you didn’t know this, I am responsible for everything that Emily Oehler, Steven Prus, and Ann Cameron Schieber do in the office. I sleep very well at night, knowing that with their dedication, hard work, and experience as well as my past and future guidance they are also putting your best interests first. I would have no hesitation to have myself (and they have many times treated me) or my family treated by any one of the PAs or Drs. Mahoney and Kaniszewska. So, even though I understand you want the best care, you will get the best care and I hate that some of you wait months to see me! Please understand that we all work together and that I trust these wonderful 5 professionals to give you as good of care as I could!

Here’s to a great summer!
